Gorogoro Azamihira

This ritual has been held in the village every summer since 2009, taking place around the time of the Bon Festival. The artist, Yu Sato, rolls from the top of the village to the foothills inside Gorogoro, a 3-meter-wide bamboo sphere. Runners accompany Gorogoro down the slope, chanting, playing instruments and carrying decorative ornaments, while the audience cheers and sprays water over them. Over time the event has evolved slowly, incorporating spontaneous input from attendees.
